The 71st staging of the Miss Universe pageant will be held in New Orleans on January 14 next year, a first for the US city. The organization postponed the event to avoid conflict with the 2022 FIFA World Cup being held in Qatar from November 20 to December 18. 90 women from around the globe will vie for the crown on the runway at Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Miss Universe Organization president Paula Shugart said New Orleans has been on the top of the organization’s list to host the prestigious pageant for a while, adding that the city’s unique arts, entertainment, and culinary scene sealed the deal. Jamaica’s Toshami Calvin will represent the island at the international event.
